Hi MSX freaks, This text is an assembly of maillings about the MSX situations in the diverse MSX countrys around the world. These messages have all been posted on the MSX mailing list Sometime in the furute I'll change this text into a FAQ as some topics return more times on the MSX list. For the users which are new on the list can then first read this FAQ. Greetings, Alex Wulms ------- MSX in Korea ----------------- Nice to meet you, MSX users, on internet. I am in Korea. Here there are a lot of people using MSX. I want to know how about in your country ? How many peoples are using MSX. Are there any companies produce MSX now ? Tell me some informations please. Thank you. jskim@core.kaist.ac.kr ------- MSX in the Netherlands ------- From: Stefan Boer ---: ---: OOO OOOO O OOOO O O OOO ---: O O O O O O O O O O O O ---: O O O O O O O O O O ---: O OOO OOOO O O O O O O OOO ---: O O O O OOOOO O O O O O ---: O O O O O O O O O O O O ---: OOOO O O O O OOOO OOO OOO ---: ---: Econometrie - VU, Amsterdam, Holland ---: Hi everybody, I think it's nice idea if everybody tells something about MSX in his/her (are there any female subscribers to the MSX mailing list?) country, eg. estimated number of users, types of MSX used (MSX1,2,2+,turbo R), magazines, software, availability in shops, etc. Here are a few details on MSX in Holland: Number of users: between 5,000 and 10,000 I think (total population 15.3 million) Types of MSX used: most MSX2, but also quite a lot of MSX2+ and turbo R I don't think there are more than a handful of people who still use their MSX1. In total there were over 300,000 MSX computers sold in Holland. Most of them MSX1 and MSX2. There is still one professional magazine, although it's not commercial anymore: MCCM (I think about 4,000 subscribers) There are a lot of usergroups who have their own magazines and/or diskmagazines. There are two large fairs each year, in September in Zandvoort (1500 visitors) and in March/April in Tilburg (2000 visitors). Most of the software is released there. All the software is made by amateurs but is as good as professional software. Prices are low, almost everything is between US$ 5 and US$ 35. Almost everything is for MSX2. MSX is not available in the regular shops anymore, if you want to buy something you buy it from a usergroup or directly from the programmer, either by mail or at a fair. There are usergroups who develop hardware and do reparations (MSX Club Gouda, Hardware Partners Nederland/Digital KC, MSX-Club West-Friesland). The only new MSX computers still available are imported turbo Rs (GT) by MSX Club Gouda. Of course there's a lot more to tell but now something about MSX in Holland. I hope other people will write something similar about their countries. Bye, Stefan ------- MSX in Brazil ----------------- Hello MSXusers! Here in Brazil MSX is not very well... We have two professional magazines (CPU-MSX and MSX TOP CLASS) but they are having problems now. There is more than three months that the last issue of CPU-MSX was launched. They said that they will merge CPU-AMIGA and CPU-MSX in one magazine... :C MSX TOP CLASS had only 2 numbers, and it was great! Lots of explanation about demos, software, new releases, but they had financial problems. It was a pity. The people who subscribed it had received a letter saying that they will be back... As you may know, Brazil is a very big country, so its difficult to contact with MSXusers from the North, or North East, or in the South of Brazil. I live in the South east (Rio de Janeiro), and here is many people who have MSX 2, 2+ who are really interested in the MSX world. We estimate that there is 40000 users who are still active in Brazil, instead of 400000 computers were sold during the period of 1986-1990. The MSX standard was the second-most sold computer in Brazil. Obviously, the PC was the most sold computer in Brazil... Most of the guys are programmers, but BASIC (ARGH!) is the most used, and Assembly, Pascal and C is very used too. Actually there is very few software for MSX 1 (who was more common here) and new software is being prepared for MSX 2, finally. Well, I dont know if there is more information about MSX in Brazil.
